PatientPlus decision aids make Shared Decision Making simple and fun. Through the decision aid the patient gains a better understanding of the pros and cons of the different treatment options and their own preferences, even before their consult. This allows for actual Shared Decision Making by the doctor and patient.
Research shows that Shared Decision Making has many positive effects. It gives the patient treatment confidence, which results in increased patient satisfaction, higher treatment adherance and more effective and appropriate care.
Health care providers also benefit from decision aids as they get better insight in the patients’ preferences. This allows for a more personalized consult. In this way one can elaborate more on the different treatment options. Overall, a more effective and efficient consult.

PatientPlus is the main provider of decision aids in the Netherlands. We have developed over 60 Dutch and 25 English decision aids to put Shared Decision Making into practice. Our aim is to make Shared Decision Making the new standard of care, by developing decision aids and, equally important, by implementing them.
Medical doctors Teun Teunis and Michiel Hageman founded PatientPlus in 2013. Now the team consists of 13 healthcare professionals. From our research and experience we are convinced that Shared Decision Making will improve the healthcare system.
With this strong belief, we are particularly committed to ensure that Shared Decision Making will be a success for our clients. In collaboration with hospitals and patient organisations we develop and implement decision aids for primary and secondary care.
